Mari Gas Company

Mari Gas Company Limited (MGCL) is a Pakistan-based company engaged in the exploration and production of gas. It was established by the Fauji Foundation, which holds a controlling interest and operates the company. After acquiring development and production lease (D&PL), the company has 100% operational control of the Mari gas field area (one of the largest field in term of balance reserves), located at Daharki, District Ghotki, Sindh. The company has also acquired development and production lease (D&PL) of Zarghun South area located in Balochistan and working as the operator. This field is also considered as an exploration block by MGCL.

The company was incorporated during December 1986, with Maj Gen Mahmood Aslam Hayat as its founding Managing Director. MGCL primarily operated as a production company until 1997, developing the discovered Habib Rahi Reservoir in phases for the supply of gas to the new fertilizer plants. Simultaneous with these development phases, the company also pursued appraisal activities within Mari gas field area by drilling stepout wells to determine the boundaries of Habib Rahi Reservoir. In 2001, MGCL entered into exploration activities with the approval Government of Pakistan (GoP).

MGCL works as the operator in other seven exploration blocks in four different provinces of Pakistan: In Balochistan; Three blocks (Hanna, Harnai and Ziarat), in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; One block (Karak) and in Punjab; One block (Ghauri), in Sindh; Two blocks (Sujawal and Sukkur).

In addition, the company is a non-operative joint venture partner in six blocks in Pakistan: Two exploration blocks (Kalchas and Kohlu) in Balochistan, three exploration blocks (Bannu west, Kohat and Zindan) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one block (Hala) in Sindh.

Moreover, the company is also a joint venture partner with 25% working interest with MOL in block 43B located in Oman. MOL with 75% working interest is the operator of the field.
